Bass Video Lessons: Be Prepared For Any Musical Situation

By Simeon Blackstock

So, you want to play bass and you'll do a search over the web for knowing the first step. There are several bass oriented sites all over the internet and all of them will do this statement for start: get yourself a bass tutor.

Whether you want to learn flashy new skills or maybe even just learn about bass scales, it's possible to do everything you could have ever wanted. There is a great number of different skills involved with playing the bass guitar that it would be nigh on impossible to master everyone but having fun is surely the most important issue.

If one grasps the notes of a regular guitar through his ears, a bass player grabs the notes of a bass guitar through his chest. The bass guitar pounds on the heart and gives it feelings through the depth of the music. Learn the notes (single chords) on a regular guitar.

For a 4 string bass, the standard tuning would go E, A, D and G from up to down. In a 5 string, an extra string is added next to the lowest string, B tuned, and in a 6 string bass adds another string but next to the G string (highest) C standard tuned.

There are a lot of tuning variations. You could tune your 5 string beginning with the E and making your last string a C, for example. Also there are a lot of tunings, including the drop down ones, which means turning down one step or more your lowest string .Those are great for heavy-hard rock styles.

Bass practice with fretboard patterns should include things such as the use of sweep picking with the 3 note per string pentatonic scale in the rock or blues bass style. You want to be able to practice with many different scales patterns as possible so that you are able to execute the runs and licks and lead lines of a wide variety of bass players and style of music that you personally are interested in.

Another thing to point is not to get anxious to play a solo. Bass is mainly focused on keeping time, and in popular music there are a few tunes that include a bass solo. So, don't rush up, find the right moment for playing a solo, do it musically and pick the notes with care.

If your goal is learning without complications and you don't want to spend lots of money, there's no place else to go. The online lessons are your source, but they're not magic. You'll need to practice and make a commitment with yourself, that's the only way to see your improvement.
